In the 1960’s, before Ireland entered the ECC, the farming sector in rural Ireland was struggling. Having just purchased his first tractor for the farm Seán Higgins began collecting cardboard from local retailers in order to supplement his income. This would continue for almost 20 years into the early 1980’s.

In 1982 Sean’s son John Higgins borrowed the tractor and trailer from the farm and started delivering blocks and collecting waste disposal from the growing construction industry. This was the beginning of Higgins Waste & Recycling in its current form.

Most of the 90’s was spent increasing our capacity to continue servicing the construction industry as well as expanding our offering to service small businesses and large factories in Tralee and the immediate surroundings. Due to this continued expansion the business was incorporated as a company in 1998, with John and his wife Jacqueline as directors.

In the 00’s our amenity centre was opened to the public in order to promote our ethos of recycling to our customers. Due to its great location and ease of access the centre has proven to be a huge success with our customers who wish to manage their own waste and recycling goods. It is an extremely cost effective system of segregating goods and as people have become more environmentally conscious our centrally located amenity centre has become increasing popular.
